About Bio-degradeable pots
Mansfield’s now produces all our plants in the new improved and redesigned bio degradable tube.
This pot helps speed up your potting process in some cases more than 50%, minimizes root disturbance therefore reducing losses at potting. Minimises waste and reduces plastic going into landfill benefiting the environment.
Features of the new designed pot.
The openings on the side of the pot have been dramatically increased in size to allow higher development of the root system and faster establishment into the pot once planted once planted. They also increase the aerial root pruning forcing better development of the root system inside the tube.
There is a larger opening at the base of the pot compared to the old design to allow roots to shoot down penetrate the new media faster.
There lip on top of the pot has been reduced by half to allow quicker degradation of the thickest part of the tube. We are now using a black coloured pot so cannot be seen in the media.
All our trialling and testing have proven the new designed pot is great for root establishment and is soon broken down.
We suggest when planting the Bio degradable pots
*They are potted completely saturated even if you are to water the mix after potting
*When planting, to aid and speed up the degradation process we suggest you give the tube a light squeeze to crack the outside wall of the pot. This allows the microbes in soil to penetrate the outer wall of the pot and begin the breakdown process (Total break down time will depend on the environmental conditions at the time of potting and growing)
*When planting a fast growing tree we suggest when you do crack the pot that you make sure you crack the base of the pot open to ensure tap roots can establish straight away. As the rest of the pot degrades and the roots that grow out the wall opening start to develop in the new media you will find this helps develop a healthy root system for trees.
*Ensure the pot is lightly covered by the fresh media once the media is settled after watering
*Water mix in thoroughly even though the tube is wet, this allows the new media and the media inside the tube to bind and exchange water more freely
